Quaker Courage was started by a few University of Pennsylvania alumni (Sharon Strauss, CAS ’85; Shobhana Kanal, CAS/GAS ’84; Constance Billé, C.W. ’68) in the fall of 2025. We work to encourage Penn to advance the values stated on its website, “excellence, freedom of inquiry and expression, and respect.”
Our first action is a letter writing campaign; we are writing letters, sharing our own appreciations of actions Penn has taken to advance those goals, and concerns about actions that interfere with Penn’s independence, academics, and its respect for community members and democracy.
Quaker Courage is a member of the Indivisible Courage Collective.
We invite you to join us and help Penn stay strong and hold fast to the values of excellence, freedom of inquiry and expression, and respect!
